I worked at a kid’s birthday party place for a couple of years in high school. So many kids would cry because they fell over, bumped their arm, etc. Never anything bad. Real winners! This is just like my coworkers! Except I don’t fill my coffee cup to the top… And my coworkers happen to be my 2-year-old son… And I don’t willingly let him hold the cup… And he outright dumps it on the floor instead of just a bit of spilling…I slowly went no cream or sugar until I only really enjoyed black coffee. I like my milk and sugar with a bit of coffee. I got over most of the resentment about a decade ago. Every now and then, one relative or another will reach out and seem reasonable/normal, and I’ll get my hopes up. We might even meet up and have a good time once or twice. But inevitably, they’ll bring God into the equation. And I’m not a dick; if I’m out with religious friends or family and they want to do a quick and quiet pre-meal prayer, I don’t get snarky.
